Vice President of Operations:
The Vice President, Operations is a multidimensional role with a specific focus on providing the leadership, strategic plans, operational systems and quality controls for the successful planning, execution and operations of all lines of business These lines of businesses are comprised of trade shows, exhibits and experiential events to achieve client's expectations as well as corporate financial and strategic objectives. This strategic role involves day-to-day problem-solving, while balancing tactical actions with strategic forecasting for long term improvements. Direct reports include the Executive Director, Show Operations and Planning and Director of Warehouse Operations and Logistics with other designated management staff in those areas.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
This strategic senior-level role oversees event show site operations planning and labor management, which involves union labor tracking, CBAs, operations/project management, decor and freight operations, local and national transportation and shipping, event subcontractor procurement and management, equipment management and procurement, budget development and management of key direct cost line items most specifically labor, as well as client fulfillment services.
The successful candidate will also provide leadership to warehouse operations and logistics to include warehouse, inventory and asset management, trucking, transportation and shipping, HMS/modular systems production, as well as client-owned inventory.
The Vice President, Operations will be ultimately responsible for overseeing one of our largest cost drivers direct labor to include all contract, flex, temporary, and overtime labor pre-show as well as union and non-union, and contract labor for show site event execution.
Vice President, Operations will be required to develop and implement production and efficient KPIs with goals to improve efficiencies, operational standards and excellence as well as, be required to work collaboratively with other operational departments to achieve the ultimate goal of a successful event production. This senior executive position will report to the COO and will have an active role in the strategic planning and direction of the company while working with the senior executive team.
Responsibilities and Duties
Develop strategic plans and budgets for the successful execution of show-site and warehouse operations.
Improve event performance and productivity at the show-site through effective management of operational standards.
Establish the infrastructure and controls to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of advance and show-site operations for improved gross margins and quality of services.
Accountable for the management of direct labor as it aligns with advance and show-site labor costs. Provide labor management tracking oversight and systems.
Develop KPIs to improve efficiencies, productivity and gross margins.
Responsible for all union contracts and CBAs to include negotiations and management as well as planning and analysis for improved efficiencies and cost reductions. Evaluate all labor sources locally and nationally. Develop flex/temporary/contract resources for show-site leads and supervisors.
Set standards and oversee all advance operations labor in the warehouse/facility. Continue to expand resources and contracts options to improve quality of service and efficiency as it relates to transportation and drivers, warehouse and operations personnel.
Develop and implement KPIs for all parts of the operations advance production and warehouse as well as show-site operations and execution.
Establish creditability with internal business partners through effective communications and collaborations.
Implement an asset management system for improved efficiencies and quality of services.
Adopt a culture that shares in the goal of improved efficiencies, reduction of costs while continuing to advance quality of service.
Collaborate with the finance department in the development and management of key job budgets as well as capital purchases and investments.
Develop new product/equipment strategy and innovation practices to improve overall operations as well as expanding the products and services for our clients.
Required Skills and Experience
10+ years in senior level event related operations management, productions, and logistics.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Ability to work in culture/environment that is high pressured, fast-paced and offers short execution timeframes.
Excellent communication with proven leadership skills
Excellent technical skills with work flow processes and operations management methods.
Excellent labor management skills with proven experience in implementing operations and performance efficiencies.
Proficient with Microsoft professional applications.
Experience with union negotiations and management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and project management software systems.
