Director, Marketing and Communications
The Marketing and Communications Director position is responsible for the overall marketing and communications strategy and plans related to the corporate identity and brand, marketing collateral, media relations, sales proposals/presentations, digital media, website development, and limited internal communication of the company. As a director, this person will be viewed as a corporate leader as part of the directors’ management team for the company.
Our client is seeking a creative action-oriented marketing professional to lead the Marketing & Communications Team in collaboration with the Sales and Business Development teams to take it to the next level of growth while keeping client’s mission, vision and core values at the forefront of decision making. The position requires a seasoned professional able to engage successfully with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, senior executives, sales teams, suppliers, media and industry professionals.
This position requires an exceptional communicator and writer to be hands-on in writing and creating marketing and communications materials as well as sales presentations and proposals.
Responsibilities and Duties
Planning and Budgeting
Develops marketing and communications plans to support the goals and objectives of the company. These plans include strategy, goals, objectives, timelines, target markets and budgets.
Collaborates with sales leadership team to ensure a planning focus on lead generation and sales conversion success, as well as with the creative team for brand messaging in all presentations.
Leads budget management process to ensure marketing and communications spend is within available sources of funds.
Creates procedures to ensure marketing operations run efficiently and effectively.
Builds and maintains relationships with vendors, partners and suppliers to ensure the company receives the best value and work product.
Establishes and maintains professional relationships amongst all levels of the organization while creating a collaborative environment, most particularly amongst the sales and creative departments.
Recruits, selects, trains, and manages the departmental staff.
Participates as a member of the directors’ leadership team and in the strategic planning process for the company.
Leads branding initiatives to ensure consistency of the corporate brand identity both internally and externally. These branded assets include letterhead, email signatures, apparel, vehicles and facility/corporate headquarters.
Oversees all marketing functions that support business development and sales initiatives, to include participation at trade shows or industry events. Oversees and is accountable for all plans and budgets relating to these events or initiatives and works in collaboration with sales to ensure sales, business development, and marketing objectives are achieved.
Oversees market research and competitive analysis to ensure company is effectively positioned in the marketplace across all lines of business.
Develops corporate and line of business messaging to be incorporated into all marketing and communications materials.
Oversees the development of corporate marketing collateral including brochures, corporate packaging, direct mail and more. Responsibilities includes overall art direction, copy, messaging, photography selection and printing as applicable.
Works closely with internal departments to produce the internal collateral and materials needed to perform their functions. These departments may include exhibitor services, finance, human resources, IT and more.
Develops all content for the organization including case studies, white papers, how-tos, check lists and thought leadership documents.
Oversees, updates, and maintains photography library assets including image selection, photography shoots and artistic direction.
Develops and oversees media relations plans and campaigns and communications/releases as well as proactively seeks out editorial and other media coverage.
Maintains list of local and national media outlets for all lines of business.
Develops strong working relationships with industry reporters to ensure effective story pitches.
Gathers industry editorial calendars to target specific media opportunities.
Writes and manages distribution of press releases.
Handles interview preparation for company spokesperson and other team members.
Works with Sales and Creative teams to identify recognition or award programs for participation; oversees and develops the entries or submissions.
Proposals and Presentations
As a strategic partner with sales leadership, collaborates on sales and marketing plans that support overall business development and growth.
Leads effort to produce approximately 100-125 sales proposals and presentations annually. Work includes management of timelines, understanding and assisting in developing the sales strategy, development of all non-technical content, layout, writing, print production, packaging and delivery.
Writes proposals, presentations and other communications and marketing materials.
Oversees maintenance of proposal/presentation library of content, layout templates and boilerplates.
Designs oversees production and/or maintains inventory of proposal packaging.
Develops all digital strategies and campaigns that support
the marketing and communications plans.
Oversees corporate website including design, content, imagery and messaging.
Designs and develops all corporate email programs related to exhibitor services, specific marketing campaigns and overall brand awareness.
Creates social media campaigns, blogs, web-casts, etc. that support marketing plans and strategies.
Maintains complete intranet presence with extensive library of electronic marketing tools and resources for internal staff and sales teams including portfolios of imagery, proposal assets, corporate identity tools, case studies, sales/proposal templates, etc.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
6-10 years of experience in Marketing and/or Communications.
5 years minimum experience in managing a staff of three or more.
Extensive experience in all aspects of Marketing and Communications as well as brand marketing for various audiences.
Exceptional written skills. Writing samples will be requested at time of interview.
Experience in events, trade shows or production industries a plus.
Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Capable of working with varying personalities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of CRM software such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
